A Fluid Transition: Merging AI and Sustainability

For as long as I can remember, I’ve focused on designing and delivering Microsoft-based cloud and datacentre solutions. As a Hybrid Cloud SME at Vigilant.IT, I worked on projects that modernized infrastructures and helped organizations adopt cloud-first strategies. My work was deeply entrenched in the Microsoft and Azure ecosystem, and I had the chance to tackle projects ranging from datacentre modernizations, cloud migrations, and to building scalable hybrid architectures.

*This image has nothing really to do with this post, just asked ChatGPT to create an image of how it sees my life from what it knows and thought it was entertaining enough to share here…

So anyway, back to the blog post 🙂

In 2023, Vigilant.IT was acquired by Fusion5, a milestone that paved the way for what would come next. It was a great experience working with a talented team and solving challenging problems for our clients. This time also gave me the opportunity to deepen my expertise and broaden my perspective on how technology can make a real difference.

That said, after a while, things started to feel a bit same-same. The challenges were still there, but they had become predictable, and the excitement of doing something new began to fade. It was clear that it was time for a change, something to break out of the routine and find fresh energy in the work again.

At the same time, my seven years as a Microsoft MVP connected me to an incredible community and provided insights into the evolving tech landscape. Through all of this, I started to see an opportunity to take my skills to the next level by stepping into the rapidly expanding world of AI and the infrastructure that powers it.

That’s where ResetData comes in. ResetData isn’t just building datacentres—they’re rethinking what infrastructure can do, especially with the rise of AI. Their focus on cutting-edge solutions like liquid immersion cooling and sustainable practices caught my attention immediately. So as our discussions about this role crystallized, it increasingly felt like the logical next step.

This role offers an exciting chance to work at the intersection of AI and infrastructure, blending my experience with new challenges. ResetData’s vision aligns with everything I enjoy about this industry: solving tough problems, driving innovation, and creating meaningful solutions that have a lasting impact.

Deciding to join ResetData wasn’t something I rushed into. Leaving behind the familiar work in MSP land, where I had the chance to collaborate with so many talented people, wasn’t easy. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized this wasn’t about leaving something behind—it was about stepping toward something new and exciting.

The opportunity to contribute to ResetData’s mission of reshaping AI infrastructure was too good to pass up. It’s not every day you get the chance to work on technologies that could redefine an industry while also aligning with your values, like sustainability and responsible innovation. Collaborating with partners like NVIDIA only adds to the excitement, as it opens doors to leverage their cutting-edge solutions and expertise in AI to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

In my new life, I’m looking forward to helping ResetData lead the way in AI enabled infrastructure. By combining my background in Azure hybrid infrastructure solutions with their forward-thinking approach, I’ll be continuing to focus on extending the power of Azure into more environments and make AI accessible, efficient, and sustainable.

One of the coolest things that excites me most is ResetData’s work on liquid immersion cooling, which significantly reduces energy usage while boosting performance. It’s a great example of how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand. As AI adoption continues to grow, these kinds of solutions will be essential—not just to support technological progress but to do so responsibly.

i.e. get excited at the prospect of reading about my experiences dunking Azure Local solutions in liquid immersion… 😉

This new phase of life is about more than just my career; it’s about contributing to the future of technology in a way that makes a positive impact. I’ll be sharing insights and updates as I plunge deeper into the challenges and opportunities that come with this role.

Here’s to the next chapter and all the possibilities ahead.

Cheers
Dan
